Stopping of Hair Loss with Propecia
Who can benefit from Propecia?
Remember this is only a treatment for male pattern baldness. Men can lose their hair for a variety of reasons. Propecia only works when you have male pattern baldness. Further, it has no effect on a woman’s hair. Indeed, there is clear medical evidence that even a small amount of this drug can cause birth defects, so no pregnant woman should even touch this drug.
What does Propecia do?
It’s an effective treatment in that it stops hair loss and, in some cases, stimulates regrowth of lost hair. More generally, you can expect the speed of growth to increase on the scalp. Propecia does not affect the hair growing on any other part of the body.
How long does it take?
It usually takes about six months for there to be any sign of a change. In some men, there’s a visible change in as little as three months. At the other extreme, some see no change for twelve months. Do not start taking Propecia unless you are patient and prepared to wait months for improvement to show.
What signs should you look for?
The first signs are a slowing of the hair loss. If you have become used to finding significant hair loss in the shower or on your comb, the count should start falling and stop. It usually takes at least six months for there to be any sign of regrowth. All hair loss should have stopped by the end of nine months.
What to do if there’s no sign of improvement?
If you take Propecia for twelve months and there’s no sign of improvement, you should stop. If it has not worked, it’s not going to work.
What happens when you stop?
As the drug clears from your bloodstream, its effect stops. You will see your hair loss slowly resume. Most men find they have lost all their regrowth within months.
